in the realm of electronic music australia isnt down under anymore but rather up there: so many fresh new producers pop up now and bell towers - aka melbourne resident roman wafers and one half of the bamboo musik dj team - proves himself one of the most promising ambassadors with his debut on internasjonal.
the latest offering from the balearica imprint featuring more top quality sun-kissed gems. first up is derrick harriots *black skin blue eyed boys*, a fantastic reggae disco cover version of the equals classic originally released on the mega rare *acid rock* lp back in 1982. following this bomb is the funky party killer, david lampells *iranian groove*. the flip side features the exceptionally hard to come by 12 inch version of *praise jah* by trinidadian singer oluko imo that captivates with its predominant funk bassline and inventive keys. finally, we have amadeos hugely in-demand *memories*, a spacey balearic disco groover that has been popping up on many djs most wanted lists ever since it was one of the standouts of harveys brilliant *sarcastic disco mix*. wonderful stuff!
tropics a.k.a. chris ward first appeared on planet mu last year, following up two eps with the album parodia flare. commended by pitchfork for his lush soundscapes and hazy pop, whats clear with tropics is that he listens to a lot of dance music and he cares about production values. the synth and beat programming is as competent as anything out there, and he avoids lazy indie stylings and one button bontempi organ beats his are crafted songs, much of the pleasure lying in his gift for dynamic arrangement, which is a joy amid rafts of useful formulaically assembled house tracks.
in common with the general post-financial collapse vibe there is less sunshine in this ep than before, and he has absorbed something from a year of intensive house music listening, but chris essential qualities remain a forward-looking wistfulness, hope beneath melancholy, something even more acutely needed now than before. oh look! here comes winter.
rhythm and melody, the beat and the bass - thats what proper club music is all about. and with current chihouse revivalists galore, its really hard to come up with something really true to the roots, and brilliantly fresh at the same time. recognition recordings, run steadily by jacek sienkiewicz, polands true visionary of contemporary club beats in a world of post-techno, passes its 30th release with this four-track marvel of an ep by one chino
since tobi kramer rocked the format b remix contest he has been basking in the brilliance of his remix for socks and sandals. it is no surprise that the two label bosses wont let go of this young man from lower saxony, though one searching for reasons need look no further than his formatik debut ep eye patch.
sugar jim jr.: dj, founder, event manager, movine gu.nther (one part of tricky fixinf), head of it all. this man knows what works in the club, has also built a few dance temples with his own hands. awesome dude! music wise? very simple. deephousedisco & 6 a.m. euphoria!
tadd mullinix aka james t. cotton aka j.t.c. is one of our true heroes. when we had our hands on the first records of his on spectral we immediately fell in love with his daring approach to club music. raw sketches of great ideas not clean, not cool, but human and deficient, singular and alive. so, signing this artist for our label is a great honour to us, and we are proud to present sonic criminal to you, an ep crossing over classic detroit techno, deep house, jazz and electro. amazing!
limited edition transparent blue vinyl pressing.

label boss, dj spider links up with analog guru, phil moffa! these two analog junkies have put together a crushing 4 track split effort. the first 3 tracks are strictly for the dance floor and the last one is a deep, mental piece! they each delivered one track each and two tracks were done together. warm analog drums with pure synth soundscapes are on display here from beginning to end. a must have for all true, underground soldiers who support new york techno!
his album debut - timez are weird these days was one the most exciting releases of 2011, shortly after, the trinidad born us rapper and producer appeared on the biggest music- and lifestyle magazines including spin, the nme, rolling stone, billboard, vogue, maxim, village voice, gq
wrong state recordings is seen as one of the labels to closely watch out for in 2013.no doubt it will be referred to in the international arena given its high qualityreleases of some of the most exclusive deep and organic sounds of tech-house.
iban reus is on a roll, putting out several crackers on labels such as work, toolroom and this great ep on witty tunes. heavyweight remixer david herrero did an outstanding job on the vinyl. supported by 2000 and one, richie hawtin, paco osuna, mark knight, dj madskillz
young belgian producer locked groove (aka tim van de meutter) cements an increasingly central role in the hotflush family fold with the release of the two part heritage ep. since his debut on the label, tim has propagated what he himself has termed 100% house and techno, combining elements of the big room, the deep and moody and straight up four-to-the-floor both into the space of a single track, and across the length of an ep. taking a marked step on from last years rooted and keep it simple eps, heritage pursues a joining of musical dots between and beyond classic house and techno, from the kerri chandler-esque house of *wear it well* through the epic landscaping of *lost* to *dream within a dream* blade runner beach party. in this collection, the young producer delivers two sets of three outstanding, genre-straddling tracks that further help to bolster hotflushs legacy as one of the most forward-thinking labels operating in 2013.
last year kyodai dropped breaking, which to date is the biggest selling release on local talk. now the brothers are back with in our opinion a future house anthem. the scene is a classic piano house cut thats impossible to resist and together with one the coolest vocal samples weve ever heard we think this has the potential to go really big. when the breakdown drops were pretty sure everybody in the club will chant. but as if this was not enough we also got another big tune on the b-side. moving is the continuation of breaking and goes along the same lines with its crossover jazz styled house. once again kyodai delivers a supa solid house production with large jazz breakdowns and old school vocals thats right up their with breaking. this is also why we called it breaking pt.2. kyodai is currently working on their debut album for local talk which is due later this year. theyre also travelling around the world with their amazing live dj set that we highly recommend. trust us when we say that these two brothers really now how to turn up the heat in a club serious biz!
fluxus is danny scrillas first transmission for civil music and the munich based producers second release. following on from 2012s flash powder ep for om units cosmic bridge label, *fluxus* sees scrilla in expected fine form, and takes in four original neck snapping instrumental tracks plus two remixes from japans deep medi member goth-trad and london producer and one to watch deft. on fluxus scrillas productions run at 80-90bpm / 160-180 bpm exploiting slowfast halftime tempos yet are seemingly engineered from the sonic essence of 06 og dubsteps dark sparse dreadnought sounds, with waves of quaking bass growing under iced-out percussion accentuated by toiling snares. floating chords and hypnotic melodies drive skeletal riddims, sci-fi synthlines arc over the spacious heavyweight ruffage built for towering stacks and pitch black rooms.
fold cut his production teeth as one-half of the much lauded london deep house outfit homepark. his first solo release to date, this ep reflects folds extensive knowledge of house and feeling for the dancefloor. a-side slime perfectly fuses driving staccato percussion with classic deep house warmth. moving patterns is a more laidback affair combining soaring vocals with an irresistible bassline that harks back to the early days of jungle. the ep is a given a special twist by an unforgettable technofied remix of slime from fellow londoner ethyl.
if youre going to get someone to remix a seminal record, its a good idea to get someone in love with the source material groove armada, noir and eats everything all fall firmly into this category. chicken lips >he not in< is one of those records that everyone recognizes, even if youre not aware of its name or who wrote it. the bassline is an enduring sound in dance music that everyone knows, and pretty much everyone loves.

chicagos kate simko is one of recent years usas most accomplished electronic music talents a genuine music love who commands equal respect behind the decks, the mixing desk and the keyboard.
steadily mining gold in an ever-evolving electronic landscape, the visionquest imprint gets set to unleash an incredibly special 6-track ep from clarian - one half of the supreme duo footprintz. collaborating with the always-innovative guy gerber on the opener, clarian voyages solo throughout the rest of the ep a collective of chemical gardens for a sonically re imagined blade runner kingdom.
bad cop bad cop are underground veteran alex cortex (xx badcop) and glam-tech-hero lopazz (zz badcop), both well-established producers and perfomers for many years with top-credentials on smaller and bigger imprints alike. so different they are in their respective solo-projects, so indistinguishably they melt their unique visions into one flow of effervescent creativity when they hit the studio or stage together.
cd-copy of the full album included.
NO ADJUSTMENTS FEAT. FOREMOST POETS (A.NIGGEMANN, ARTTU RMXS)
12 Inch 19.02.13
steve bug returns with a brilliant set of killer reworks from his much-lauded noir album. no adjustments features the vocal talents of foremost poets, and remains one of the standout moments on the label boss enigmatic long player. where noir explored the themes of light and shade, it was always clear that no adjustments was one of the more straight up dance floor moments on there, and as such this release is definitely going to be thankfully received by djs.
another slab of wax from the large music crew and this one is a beast! four fresh delectable cuts all with the classic deep large music house vibe. side a stars berlins nathan g with a garage workout and evan iff with a nod to classic vintage styles. side b features james dexter working out a chicago jack track and denmarks jacob bech with a sweaty nu school workout. get large 2013!
it should be is the new ep from noon, one of the main artist and the label manager of sfx recordings. this release will be the first one on vinyl and digital. a two tracks ep definitely oriented to a deep underground clubbing feeling. *it should be* is the special tracks perfectly dosed in between groove and melodic flow, it will be a main instrument for all the after lovers. *fun to mental* is definitely the dance floors track of the release. based on a funky energy, surrounded by a fat groove, this tracks is a classic to have and play for all the parties lovers!
mark broom continues his legacy as one of the uks finest producers with another outstanding ep on bek audio. after the flying success of >eye of the tiger< & >stag<, mark broom makes his third outing on gary becks bek audio label with the >salvo ep<. mark broom has a long and illustrious career in uk techno. his 20 years experience not only shows in his sculptured releases, but also in the imprints he has worked with over these years, namely pure plastic, theory rec, b-pitch control, soma, saved & cocoon.
release 003 sees the introduction of three french producers, all are based in paris with a passion and love for the house sounds from chicago and detroit forming a blueprint for the dubble dubs ep
nice price deal !!! every once in a while a particular record will land in our laps which we have very little information on but usually somebody will unearth its origins after a bit of homework and more often than not it turns out to be a relatively well-known producer operating under a new and secret pseudonym. what we are looking at here however, seems to be quite the enigma. one can only speculate as to who watkins & almadovar might be.
ffr start well 2013 with a vinyl release which could be qualified as indecent, featuring an original track by phonokemi, remixed by two well respected artists, the italian nico lahs and the incredible german producer tim xavier. a release with multiple facets: deep, tech house, minimal & mental and chicago-bump-styleas we would come to expect from phonokemi, thoughts is a deep tech house track of extremely high quality. with a deep and pumping baseline and well refined vocals, thoughts is dark and groovy on one hand and an invitation to dance on the other, with absolutely no second thoughts.nico lahs s remix is an ultra-personal and mental re-read of the original track: minimal and elegant, cosmic and organic this track is reminiscent of some of ricardo villalobos s reference productions.finally tim xavier takes us straight to the centre of the universe: the dancefloor. his remix is a real dancing machine pumping basses, efficient snares and sublime vocals that loop the loop and make this ep a killer release.
hiem, who created the stunning *2.a.m* single with the human leagues phil oakey earlier this year on nang, returns with another collaboration of equal measure, this time with the uks one and only roots manuva.
the founders of lets play house recordsnew yorkers jacques renault and nik mercerhave started a new imprint in an effort to continue pushing the envelope and expanding their stylistic reach. g.m. is a vinyl-only label that will exist for eight installments, each one signifying a different phase of the moon. the releases will vary in tone and aesthetic, but, suffice it to say, each will be harder and heavier than what lph proper puts forth. the series commences with four bombastic, techno-leaning barn-burners by a man who goes simply by almost. g.m. guarantees that they will tear up any club floor.
eclectic avenue welcomes the inimitable lil mark, one of the true stalwarts of the uk house scene & regular contributor to some of the finest imprints worldwide. here mark expertly shows his unique knack for genre-straddling. kicking off with pulling strings more familiar lil mark territory, with his trademark tight-as-hell percussion & firing bass sat below a freaked-out twisting riff. seriously, this bad-boy takes no prisoners....other than the ones on the dancefloor.... on the flipside we are treated to memoirs, a beautifully sumptous lo-slung roller, utilising a vox refrain over the top of a glorious rolling bass groove. like being comforted by a welcoming acid-bass-hug, this is truly something special. nestled inbetween marks original cuts is e.a.r. main-man j.cub, who offers up an alternate interpretation of memoirsl. taking the vox refrain & weaving it throughout the track like an instrument, j.cub nudges the tempo up slightly & adds a solid percussive backdrop & a reworked bass groove, creating a cut which is deep enough to warm the crowd but packs a solid punch at the same time
upon the first listen, the work of fernando unfolds directly on your brain and leaves a long lasting feeling of drama. fernando pulichino is one those lucky guys who can pick up any instrument and write songs without breaking a sweat. he first caught my attention with a remake of the bauhaus classic kick in the eye released on redux in 2008. he then backed up this great start with releases and remixes for labels like international feel, under the shade, internasjonal and nang. he also very busy touring as part of the 2020 soundsystem band and he is also in silver city with julian sanza.
we decided to put together a long player to highlight the talents of our man in buenos aires. the construction of *float* reveals an astonishing wealth of musical ideas, brazen touches of new wave and icy modern disco sounds are evident throughout. low slung basses are also a theme that runs right through *float* whether it is the opening song *a place* which has a monster electronic bottom end or *from out there* which sits firmly on the punk funk dinner table, bass lines are clearly important to fernando.
the two brothers of gebrÜder teichmann have been regular guests at the early killekill events. that is because they have a very similar approach to electronic music as we do. first of all they are deeply in love with the music itself and not the fame, the money or whatever one might expect to get when making music, and second they have a wide musical horizon and interesting perspectives on it, because they are active on several levels, as djs, musicians, promoters etc. first of all though they got class and taste, and so we are happy to present their cooperation with one of our personla heroes and one of the very big names in early house music: johnny dangerous aka foremost poets.
sampler 1 brings us one of the most sought after tunes of the year, joy orbison and boddikas >mercy< has been given the vip treatment by boddika and its been doing damage on dance-floors world-wide since its inception.on the flip, kassem mosse brings his exclusive flavour back to the nonplus camp with >broken patterns<, a mesmeric journey through evolving melodies and drum programming.
the famous >warung< and >d edge< club resident and three times best brazilian dj voted paulo boghosian & torquato make the follow up on the new cecille imprint cic records. the ep starts with the massive >fragments< track, crowing synthesizers evolving into talking vocals. ruff but still moody coming the two versions of >silence & rhythm<. great atmospheric tracks with a special touch of deepness and intensity. the second one on the flip is called >whitegen<, mixed deep and tech house at its best

the small, exquisitely formed take records maintain their reputation for tracks that elegantly live their life on the peripheries of house and techno with this release from one of the labels co-owners, rick grant, and a fine cabal of remixers. the west london-based producers original mix adopts the full widescreen effect, cascading deep bass throbs and a trembling metallic clatter across a ponderous 2-step click. consequences reworking wires in some heavy-ass sub-bass transmissions and a rapid-fire hi-hat rhythm, before jack dixons late-night submission takes a clockwork 4/4 tempo and bolts a springy, low-slung bassline to it, accompanied by layers of velvety synth patterns. crossing is an ep of uniformly consistent quality, where texture and atmosphere take the spotlight.
